The PS12LA provided a 12 V, 7.0 Ahr rechargeable power supply for the CR500, CR510, or CR10(X) dataloggers and their peripherals. The rechargeable battery could be trickle-charged from ac (with optional wall charger) or from an external solar panel. The user could add an external rechargeable battery.

The PS12LA was also used as a separate auxillary 12 V power supply that powered remotely located sensors or peripherals, such as a multiplexer located at a distance from the data logger enclosure. However, to avoid errors in analog measurements and ground loops, the power supplies needed to share a common ground.
